Plant Operating Manuals – POM Development

TRACEZ team has many years’ experience in developing POMs for both green and brown projects.

Introduction

Plant Operating Manual is a reference / guidance document that is to be used by Operations personnel during the normal running phase of a project / plant. POM is not a Training Manual or a pre-commissioning or commissioning manual. The POMs should not be overloaded with Nice to know material but definitely should contain all Must to know stuff.

Features of a good POM

• Shall contain the technical information that required supporting the operations personnel to safely and efficiently start up, operate, control, handle normal and abnormal process conditions and also shutdown, depressurise and restart the plant system.
• POM should not contain information that is already available in other documents (Commissioning manuals, Training manuals, etc.)
• POM has to be well structured & contain information in sequential order
• It is easy to search and locate the required information.
• It has enough graphics to understand the process & control systems
• Information/instructions are clear and straight forward, no vague statements.
• Simple and short sentences, technical English to use
• Uniform standard for colors, letters sizes, capitals, highlighting all hazards, etc.

Digital and Smart POMs

Tracez offers a computer based digital manual in addition to the paper bound hard copy manual. Digital manuals improve the search and find features of the manual. Any information ( startup procedures, Alarm trip setting, normal control settings, plot plans, PEFS, C & E diagrams, etc) can be retrieved by few clicks.
